Project Hack From IWF Day 1

"USA - Motorcycles"

We thought it would be fun to try and create a Design and Make CNC Project Hack for every day we are at the IWF Show in Atlanta.  This hack was put together on the first day of the show as a bit of a demo.

"USA - Motorcycles"

This layout was created using models from these projects:

Fonts used are:

  • Impact, Candara

Note - This hack was assembled in Aspire V8 for presentation purposes.  It could have been done in VCarve Pro V8 or VCarve Desktop.

Why not hack together your own layout mixing and matching models from other projects or from your own library!  For some great inspiration check out our  hacks page!

Customer Focus - Ted Gauthier

Ted is the Deputy Fire Chief for Bloomfield Village fire department, Bloomfield Township Michigan, and does CNC'ing in his spare time.  He also races/flies hot air balloons... wow... that's a busy guy!  Last year he sent in this finished piece he made for his local Fire Chief.

Fire Chief Plaque

"I used a .25 in. End mill for the roughing and profile. I used the 1/16 ball nose for the finishing cut and a 60 degree V carve bit for the letters. I use Vectric VCARVE Pro 8 software"

Ted used models from 2 different projects to create this hack -

Local Heroes - Firefighter No.1
Local Heroes - Police No.1

What a great layout for a retirement plaque or with a quick change of text a years of service award.

Ted's Home Built CNC Machine

"My CNC is a homemade. Plans by Dave Gatton. The CNC cutting area is 24 inches by 34 inches. "

What a great looking machine!!!  Amazing the detail you can get from a machine made mainly out of plywood!

Thank you Ted for sharing your project and CNC pictures with us!

Hack of the Week No.86

This Hack of the Week would make a perfect gift for a friend or family member that is an EMT or Paramedic.  Change up the V-Carving to make it into a years of service award or a simple "Thank You" to an everyday hero that gave a helping hand by volunteering their time in your community.

This "EMT/Paramedic" badge/sign layout was created using models from these CNC projects:

The fonts we used to simulate the v-carving on this layout are called: Century 725, Book Antiqua

Tip: Star of Life Symbol for V-Carving was created by selecting the Star of Life model and then using the "Create vector boundary from selected component" tool.

Note - This hack was assembled in Aspire V8 for presentation purposes.  It could have been done in VCarve Pro V8 or VCarve Desktop.

A Little Something Extra

We have included a screen grab to help you if you would like to recreate this layout or something close.  This layout and component tree would be the same in VCarve Pro V8, VCarve Desktop and Aspire V8.
